Batting stance has always remained an interesting topic in cricket. From Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s distinctive batting stance to Luke Ronchi’s out-of-the-box batting stance, there has been plenty of creativity. And now Aussie batsman George Bailey has joined the bandwagon by batting in a weird style in a tour game against the visiting South African team.

Bailey bats in the unconventional fashion

The coaches advice batsmen to have a stable head and a clear view of the bowler when batting as these elements enable the batsman to study the ball and play accordingly.

However, the former Australian captain had some other ideas as he arrived at the crease against South Africa while representing Prime Minister’s XI in a tour match.

The right-hand batsman turned his back towards the mid-on fielder while taking the stance and returned to the normal position when the bowler arrived at the crease. And he did this not just once but frequently.

South Africa was bundled out for just 173 runs in the tour game but then had the Prime Minister’s XI at three down for 53 runs when the Aussie batsman arrived at the crease. Playing with his unique batting stance, Bailey rescued his team and then chased the target with ease.

However watching Bailey’s bizarre batting stance from the slips, Proteas captain Faf du Plessis couldn’t control himself from giggling.

Bailey explains his batting stance

After the game, the former Aussie skipper spoke about his batting stance. He said that he has to admit though, that it’s nuts. Which is why he doesn’t like looking at it that much. But he also pointed out that it is pretty cut-throat international cricket, and even domestic cricket, and he believes that he has found something that’s working.
