Twitter unhappy with Rohit Sharma not getting man of the match award

India defeat Windies in the first ODI by eight wickets

In the first ODI between India and Windies which turned out to be a run feast, India chased the target of 323 runs in the 43rd over courtesy of a sensational 246 runs partnership between skipper Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The Indian captain scored 140 runs off 107 balls and won the man-of-the-match award for his Herculean effort. However, some fans are unhappy with Kohli getting man of the match award as they felt Rohit Sharma who remained unbeaten on 152 runs off 117 balls was the ideal contender for this award. Fans expressed their amusement and displeasure on this issue on Twitter.

Virat and Rohit match each other

While chasing the mammoth target of 323 runs, India lost opening batsmen Shikhar Dhawan in the second over itself. But since then it was the Virat and Rohit show that stunned the visiting team. Virat started aggressively and brought up his half-century in just 35 balls while Rohit Sharma was a bit tentative in the beginning but he changed his gears in the middle overs. He completed his fifty in 51 balls and then at one time had a better scoring rate than the captain. Kohli made his hundred in 88 balls while the Indian opener took only 84 balls to reach the triple figure mark.

Importantly, Kohli departed with India still 67 runs away from the win while Sharma stayed till the end steering the team home. With his unbeaten knock of 152 runs, Sharma ensured that India chased the total with ease. However the jury adjudged the Indian skipper as the man of the match and Sharma’s magnificent innings was overlooked.
