Indian wicket-keeper and senior player MS Dhoni is doubtful for the fourth ODI versus New Zealand. Dhoni missed the third ODI due to a hamstring injury and it seems that he may be out of the fourth ODI as well.
Dhoni’s rare injury occurrence
The Indian wicket-keeper is regarded as one of the fittest cricketers around the globe. In his 14 years of playing international cricket, Dhoni has missed a game only thrice.
After making his debut in 2003, Dhoni missed ODIs against Ireland and South Africa in 2007 due to viral fever and then had to sit out of the 2013 triangular series in Windies due to a hamstring injury.
And his injury in the ongoing New Zealand series is the third instance when he has missed a game due to an injury.
Kohli rested, Dhoni may also sit out of the fourth ODI
The team management didn’t clarify the severity of Dhoni’s injury. But with very little time between the third and the fourth ODI, the team management may rest Dhoni to ensure he is fully fit for the all important World Cup tournament.
India have already decided to rest skipper Virat Kohli for the remaining two ODIs and now in his absence, opening batsman Rohit Sharma will lead the team.
India used Dinesh Karthik as the wicket-keeper in Dhoni’s absence in the third ODI and he did well with the gloves and with the bat. Hence, the Indian team may offer him another chance to show his mettle.
