Laxman rates Down Under knock higher than 281 at Kolkata

The innings of 281 at Kolkata in  2001 is inked in cricket history as one of the finest knocks ever produced. However, the man who weaved that magical inning, VVS Laxman feels that his inning of 167 against Australia in 2000 was a more special inning for him.

281 is memorable but 167 was career-defining: Laxman

The former Indian cricketer was speaking at the launch of his autobiography ‘281 and beyond’ on November 15th. He said that 281 is definitely a very memorable knock and a match for him, that Kolkata Test match and the series itself. But, he revealed that 167 gave him the confidence that he can perform at the highest level.

Laxman explained that because the situation they were in, and the conditions, it was quite a challenging condition and also one of the best bowling line-ups in world cricket.

167 at Sydney turned around my career: Laxman

He stated that to go out and get his first Test 100 was very important for him to realize that he had the potential to perform even at the highest level.

So, he thinks that Sydney 100 gave him the confidence that he can take on the best in various conditions and various situations. He fees that this innings turned around his career if he may say.

No regret on retirement decision: Laxman

The India batsman was also asked about his decision to retire before the Test against New Zealand which was scheduled at Hyderabad, Laxman’s home ground. On this, the right-hand batsman stated that retirement or any decision you take, you have to be comfortable with that decision. He stated that he felt deep down that it was the right time for him to quit the game and move on.

So, he doesn’t at all regret the decision. But at the same time, he pointed out that a lot of fans still feel very disappointed and disheartened that they did not see him bat for one last time in Hyderabad.
