Rishbah Pant made a strong statement about his batting potential by slamming an aggressive hundred on day five of the 5th Test. While doing so the youngster also broke several records. One such record Pant broke was of the highest score registered by an Indian wicket-keeper in the 4th innings of the Test match.
This record was previously held by former Indian captain MS Dhoni and incidentally Dhoni had made this record against the same opposition-England.
Dhoni’s record that stood for 10 plus years
In the 2007/8 series, Dhoni 76 not out at the Lord’s Test in the last innings of the Test. This was a highly crucial innings by Dhoni was it helped India to earn a draw from what looked like a hopeless situation. India eventually went on to win the series and this innings by Dhoni was a held as a decisive performance as Dhoni batted for 20 overs with the tailenders before rains saved Team India.
This record stood tall for more than a decade and was finally broken courtesy of a special knock by Rishabh Pant.
Rishabh Pant now holds the record of scoring most runs in the 4th inning of a Test among Indian keepers eclipsing MS Dhoni's 76* against England at Lord's in 2007.#ENGvIND

Pant silences his criticsÂ
The 20-year-old made his Test debut in the 3rd Match of the series but hadn’t made any significant contributions with the bat. His wicket-keeping was under scanner too and there were question marks on his place in the team for the tour of Australia later this year.
But Pant silenced all the critics and proved his worth by scoring a hundred that actually created a hope of a win for India.
However, Pant fell in the last session of the play and with it India’s hopes of saving the Test were ended as well.

Starts his career with a six, gets his first century with a six. This will be fantastic for Rishabh Pant's confidence going ahead. Big plus from this last day

Rishabh Pant proved that he can bat in Test Cricket and played a wonderful inning yesterday.
But with the bench strength that we possess, would it be fair to have him keeping the wickets in all three formats?— Omkar Mankame (@Oam_16) September 12, 2018
