India vs Windies Test told us what is wrong with Test cricket: Aakash Chopra

The Test series between India and Windies hasn’t impressed former India cricketer Aakash Chopra and he feels that the first Test played at Rajkot between these two teams revealed what is wrong with Test cricket.

Chopra believes if there is no context then public won’t be interested 

Chopra has expressed his view on the Test series in a column he wrote for an online cricket portal. He wrote that if we can’t find context and contest in an event scheduled to last five days, we must not blame the paying public for turning their backs on Tests.

The former opening batsman noted that cricket offers its fans three formats to watch, and he hopes that the Test Championship will fix some of the problems the five-day game faces.

In the first Test, India amassed a massive total of 649 runs by grinding the Windies bowlers for about two days and then the hosts bundled out the visitors in less than 100 overs in two innings.

The Test lasted for just three days and for most part of it was a one-sided game dominated by India.

Chopra feels Rishabh Pant can play in 2019 world cup

At the same time, the former India cricketer was full of praise for young wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant. He feels that Pant might be the finisher India are seeking in limited overs.

Chopra notes that MS Dhoni is certain to play the 2019 World Cup but he also believes that Dhoni is no longer the finisher the team needs.

Hence the right-hand batsman ponders on the idea letting Dhoni continue as keeper and drafting Pant in as a specialist batsman.

Second Test between India and West Indies on October 12

India have gained 1-0 lead in the Test series and the second match of the series will be played at Hyderabad from October 12.
