However, India did made a slight comeback as Mohammed Siraj got the better of Bairstow early in the second session. Ishant Sharma who was playing his first match of the series, then bowled a lovely delivery to shatter the stumps of England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler. It was a beautiful sight to watch as Ishant let out a roaring celebration after hitting the top of the off-stump. The right-handed batsman managed to score 23 runs off 42 balls.

India’s senior pace bowler Ishant Sharma also reached the milestone of 200 away Test wickets. He became the fourth Indian bowler to achieve the landmark.

The star performer in this Test match surely has been England captain Joe Root smashing back-to-back hundreds. After a fighting century in the second innings of the Nottingham Test match, he started with the same momentum in the ongoing match and the Indian bowlers were definitely short of answers as Root racked up his 22nd ton in the longest format of the game. England are in a commanding position in this 2nd Test match against, though the visitors are still ahead by 36 runs. The hosts will now be eyeing to take a big first innings lead and put the entire pressure back on the visiting Indian team.
