Fastest century in ODI by Indian – In October of 2013, cricket fans witnessed one of the finest One-day International series ever. India locked horns with Australia in a seven-match ODI series. 300 runs were surpassed in nine out of eleven innings that were completed. Rohit Sharma, George Bailey, and James Faulkner come to mind for their unreal power hitting. However, in the second game held at Jaipur, Virat Kohli hit a special knock, which still stands as the fastest century in ODI by an Indian.

Australia set a mammoth target of 360 runs for India. In doing so, they set a unique record as all the top five batsmen scored half-centuries. George Bailey, the stand-in captain in place of Michael Clarke, was particularly impressive with a 50-ball 92*.

In reply, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave the hosts a solid foundation. Dhawan fell with five runs short of a hundred in the 27th over, and the greatest run chaser of all time walked in next. With India still needing 190 from 12 overs, Kohli got off to a brisk start. He completed his century off just 27 balls.

The Aussies had no answer to Kohli’s strokeplay. He was particularly severe on Xavier Doherty. The innings was filled with his trademark cover drives and pull shots. In the penultimate ball of the game, Kohli completed his hundred in 52 balls. He hit eight boundaries and seven sixes in the process. Watch the video here:

India thus made a mockery of Australia’s total and won by nine wickets with 6.3 overs to spare. It was the second-highest run chase in ODIs then. Rohit Sharma was named Man of the Match for his 141*, his third ODI century.

MS Dhoni:

“I think this is one of the best you can see, irrespective of the field restrictions and the pitch, it was still a tall chase. I told them not to look at the target and just go and play. Shikhar batted very well, Kohli was amazing, Rohit got a big knock. It was an ideal pitch, fast outfield, but you need to keep the shape as a batsman, that’s what they did well. Our batting is looking good, but it’s unfair to assume the batsmen are going to chase a 300+ target everytime.”

George Bailey:

“I don’t know, I am not sure what to feel at the moment. Obviously, it was some awesome batting. They did it pretty comfortably in the end. Everything we tried the ball seemed to go further and harder. You think the pitch is a beauty? There are always things you can do differently, but there are no second chances.”

Virat Kohli:

“I kept telling Rohit that it was his day today, but i kept hitting the ball very well. I didn’t bat in the nets yesterday, just had a few throw downs. Wasn’t worried about the short-pitched stuff, i pulled a few of them early and then they started bowling half-volleys. Rohit is the best of the young lot that we have and he is the most dangerous T20 player, so it was a privilege to watch him from the other end.”
