The first Test match between England and India at Trent Bridge was at its exciting best with two high-quality sides matching each other blow for blow, setting the stage for a brilliant final day in a series opener. However, rain played the spoilsport once again, washing out the final day, which resulted in a draw. However, reports of racial abuse by a set of English fans has hogged a lot of limelight.

A British Indian female fan took to Reddit and narrated the experience saying that English fans were constantly hurling abuses and racist comments towards Indian cricketers. India fast bowler Mohammed Shami was being called ‘Sh**ty Shami’ while the skipper Virat Kohli was referred to as ‘wanker Kohli’ after losing DRS and also called the visiting team players lazy and cheaters according to the fan.
The woman then brought the issue to a steward’s attention in the stand when she was told to ‘go back to India’ by an England fan. The steward took prompt action and ejected the fan from the venue. After the incident, the lady along with her family was then moved to the stand where more Indian fans were present but even a small section of English fans kept chanting ‘Delta’ concerning the COVID-19 variant which was previously named as ‘Indian variant.’
