It has been a bad year for the Indian team, where few players have encountered injuries that has given setbacks to the touring party. Earlier in the year, Shreyas Iyer suffered a shoulder injury and had to sit out for around 3 months. In the Indian test team that was on a tour to England, Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Washington Sundar were ruled out ahead of the test series against England due to their injuries. The batters Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav were called as replacements to them.

Shardul Thakur ruled out of ENG vs IND 2nd Test

In the latest development, Shardul Thakur has been ruled out of the 2nd Test with hamstring injury. The captain Virat Kohli has confirmed the injury concern of Thakur in the press conference and said he will likely be available for the 3rd Test.

It is being said that the bowler arrived for training at Lord’s and went to gym as well. Thakur picked a total of 4 wickets in the 1st Test at Trent Bridge, but bowled only 14 overs in the 2nd innings.

Who can replace Shardul Thakur in India’s Playing 11?

The Indian team played with 4 pacers, Shami, Bumrah, Siraj, and Shardul Thakur, and the only spin option was Ravindra Jadeja. Now the big question would be who will replace Thakur in the 2nd Test. The two options would be Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin.

The pacer Ishant Sharma is said to have participated in a complete session, while Ashwin did not bat. The fitness concerns revolving around Ishant Sharma can be put to rest after he bowled for an hour and even had a batting session, which was may be aimed at helping the team in the lower order. But Ashwin can also be picked to include variety in the attack and his conventional batting skills.
