The former cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar featured in 37 Tests and 74 ODIs for India. He averages 30+ in both the formats and certainly demands respects from the cricket fraternity. But his remakrs about certain players in the commentary stint have landed him in trouble a few times and need a rethinking strategy while commentating or post-match analysis in the international series.
Sanjay Manjrekar again takes a dig at Ravindra Jadeja
The all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been the top contender of getting a slack from the former cricketer. From past few years, Jadeja has been drafted into the test side and has been phenomenal with his bowling performance and has been a backbone of the middle-order. His contributions with the bat in the home series has even kept Ashwin out of the Playing 11 in the current series against England.

Jadeja was promoted to no.5 in the ENG vs IND 4th Test Match to defend the out of form Ajinkya Rahane and play out the new ball in a judicious way. But, the all-rounder failed to contribute and was dismissed for 10 and gave his wicket to Chris Woakes. After this failed experiement, Sanjay Manjrekar has given his remarks about the all-rounder’s inability to contribute with the bat in the overseas series.
“I think the T20 way of thinking has come in. I think they overestimated the ability of Jadeja to play at No. 5. In these conditions, it was a disaster waiting for him. I think Indian cricket is overestimating Jadeja’s batting ability in overseas conditions,” said Manjrekar.
“In India, send him at No. 5, there is going to be no problem. In these conditions, we saw while he was out there when the ball was swinging, he didn’t look comfortable,” Manjrekar added.
What Virat Kohli said on Ashwin’s exclusion?
The captain Virat Kohli is receiving flak on social media after Ashwin was overlooked yet again in the 4th Test. With a fine track record in England, and a being a handy batsman, Ashwin has all the ability to be in the Playing 11 for all the pitches around the world.

“We thought about getting Ravichandran Ashwin in but the pressure of the extra seamer in these conditions is crucial,” Virat had said in the post-match presentation of 3rd Test.
At the toss of 4th Test, Virat said, “I think according to the match-ups, it fits perfectly for our team – plus the balance he is giving us with the bat as well currently,” on being asked about inclusion of Jadeja in 11.
