ENG vs IND Day 3 Highlights: Team India took one step closer to registering a historic win in the ongoing first Test against England. Even after losing early wickets in the middle-order, India managed to take a massive first innings lead of 95 runs. It will be a really challenging task for the hosts to now save this Test match.
Rahul, Jadeja and lower-order power India to 95-run lead
The rain gods once again played a significant role in interrupting the proceedings on Day 3 of the first India vs England Test match but whenever play resumed, some quality cricket was witnessed at Trent Bridge. On the back of an excellent 60-run partnership between KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, India successfully got ahead of England’s first innings total. Rahul played a wonderful gutsy innings of 84 runs that included 12 boundaries. Jadeja too smashed with a crucial knock of 56 runs.

However, the turning point on Day 3 proved to be the invaluable contribution from India’s lower-order comprising of pacers Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. The three fast bowlers added a vital total of 46 runs between them to help India take a lead of 95 runs. India got bowled out for 278 runs in the first innings as England pacer Ollie Robinson picked up his maiden five-wicket haul. Veteran pacer James Anderson also finished with four scalps and also took over Anil Kumble’s tally of 619 wickets to become the third highest wicket-taker of all-time in Test cricket. The 39-year-old now has a stunning total of 621 wickets to his name in 163 Tests.

The England openers, Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley came out to bat for a short passage of time on Day 3 where they stood unbeaten at 25 for no loss. The umpires were once again forced to suspend the day’s play quite early because of the persistent rain in Nottingham. However, undoubtedly, India are in a great commanding position in this Test match.
