Swashbuckling West Indian batsman Andre Russell scripted history on Friday as he took apart a hapless St Lucia Kings bowling attack to smash a 14-ball half-century: the fastest in CPL history.
On a day where Jamaica Tallawahs smashed the second-fastest total (5/255) in the history of the Caribbean Premier League, Andre Russell showcased just why he is one of the most fearsome hitters of a cricket ball as the all-rounder just laid into the Kings’ bowling attack, especially Wahab Riaz, who proceeded to concede 61 runs in a mere three overs.
Russell got to his fifty on the last ball of the innings as he pulled a slow bouncer by Obed McCoy over deep mid-wicket. The fielder at the boundary did try his best to catch the ball but it proceeded to comfortably sail past his head, handing Andre Russell his second 14-ball half-century in T20 cricket.

Andre Russell smashed as many as 6 sixes during his brutal onslaught coupled with three fours and the defining moment of his innings came during the penultimate over of the innings when he just laid into Wahab Riaz, taking the veteran left-arm seamer for 32 runs.
Russell smashed as many as five sixes off Riaz to cap off what was a horrendous day for the Pakistan seamer as he ended up with disastrous figures of 0-61 in three overs.

This is the second time that Russell has smashed a 14-ball half-century in Twenty20 cricket. He had achieved the same during the inaugural season of the Lankan Premier League last year. Earlier, Jamaica Tallawahs got off to a sensational start as the opening duo of Chadwick Walton (47 off 29 balls) and Kennar Lewis (48 off 21 balls) racked up 81 runs in the powerplay.
Once they got the start, Jamaica Tallawahs batsmen ensure that they kept sustained pressure on the St Lucia Kings bowlers as Haider Ali (45 off 32) and skipper Rovman Powell (38 off 26) chipped in with handy cameos before Russell took center stage. At the time of writing, St. Lucia Kings were on the brink of a heavy defeat, having lost 8 wickets for 119 in 14.2 overs.
