What’s the story?
Sri Lanka Test captain Dinesh Chandimal has been ruled out of the 2018 Asia Cup after the wicket-keeper batsman failed to recover from his finger injury. Niroshan Dickwella has been called in as the replacement for the 28-year-old.
Chandimal had injured his finger during the Super Provincial T20 tournament in Sri Lanka and his participation was always a major doubt leading into the tournament.
It’s been a rough few months for Dinesh Chandimal. After breaching the ICC Spirit of Conduct, he was handed a six-match ban that prevented him from participating in the South Africa series.
Dickwella, who was initially snubbed from the Asia Cup squad after a string of underwhelming performances in the South Africa ODI series, has been included in the set-up.
Sri Lanka has also recalled veteran fast bowler Lasith Malinga who will make a comeback to International cricket after a one-year hiatus.
Five-time Champions Sti Lanka will kickstart their 2018 Asia Cup campaign on September 15m 2018 where they take on Bangladesh.
