Blow to WI: Skipper Jason Holder suspended from 3rd ENG Test

Windies team registered a memorable Test series victory against England by winning the second Test but the hosts have received a massive blow as their skipper Jason Holder has been suspended from the third Test by ICC for an over rate offense.

Holder held responsible for Windies’ slow over rate in second Test

Windies’ over rate in both the Tests in this series so far has been poor thanks to their four pace bowler attack. Windies bowled 61 overs in the first innings of the second Test and 42.1 overs in the second innings.

The ICC has held Holder responsible for the slow over rate as he was captaining the Windies team and he has been suspended for one Test match.

This is not the first time Holder has been suspended for an over rate offense. In 2017, the Windies all-rounder had missed the second Test match against New Zealand as he was charged for the same offense by ICC.

Brathwaite to lead Windies in Holder’s absence

The vice-captain of the current Windies team, Kraigg Brathwaite will lead the team in Holder’s absence.The opening batsman has prior experience of captaining the team as he had led the side against Bangladesh in 2017 for two Tests.

Keemo Paul to replace Holder in third Test

The Windies team management has roped in 20 year old all-rounder Keemo Paul for the third Test as a replacement for Holder.

Paul has been impressive in domestic circuit and his ability to contribute with the bat as well as with the ball has helped him in getting selected in the national team.

Holder was the architect of Windies’ historic series win against England as he picked crucial wixkets and scored a double hundred in the first Test. He was also the man of the match for the first Test and is currently ranked number one in ICC’s rankings for Test all-rounders.
