A film based on an Indian cricketer is set to release in 2019. Directed by Gautam Tinnanuri, the movie features Telugu superstar Nani and although the name of the cricketer hasn’t been revealed yet, it is believed that the movie is based on Raman Lamba, the cricketer who died after being hit by a cricket ball.
Nani releases first look of the film
The Telugu actor shared the first look of the film with his fans on social media. The movie is titled ‘Jersey’ and the story revolves around a cricketer and his exploits in 1996/97 Ranji Trophy season.
Nani wrote in his Tweet,’VINTAGE SPARKLES. At 36 there is nothing left for him to prove in cricket. The dreams and heartburns have been left behind. 1996-97 Ranji trophy season was just a display of his love for batting.’

The tragic story of Raman Lamba
Raman Lamba is one of the very few cricketers who died on the field while playing cricket. The Indian cricketer was hit on the head while fielding during a game in Bangladesh’s domestic league. Lamba slipped into a coma due to internal hemorrhage and died three days after the incident.
The right-hand batsman had an impressive start to his ODI career. He scored a hundred and two fifty-plus scores against the mighty Aussies to win the man of the series award but his form dipped afterward. He featured in four Tests but failed to cement his place in the national team.
However, he was a prolific run-getter in Ranji Trophy. He played 175 first-class innings and had an impressive average of 53.84.
The age of biopics
In recent times, there has been a rise in biopic movies on athletes in Indian cinema. The trend set by Bhag Milkha Bhag was continued by Mary Kom and recently a biopic on MS Dhoni made a massive impact at the box office.

Now, another biopic on a cricketer is in progression. Ranveer Singh will be featuring in a movie that documents India’s 1983 world cup win.
