ICC World Cup 2019: Holder confirms all-rounder to miss New Zealand game

Windies skipper Jason Holder has confirmed that all-rounder Andre Russell will miss the match against New Zealand in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. The all-rounder is facing injury issues and hasn’t regained fitness yet.

Holder confirms Russell’s absence for the New Zealand match 

Holder was speaking with the media ahead of the match against New Zealand when he shed light on Russell’s injury. Holder said that he doesn’t think Russell is fit enough to go tomorrow

Holder explained that they have still got a few niggles within the group and they are trying to manage niggles the best they possibly can.

He confirmed that one guy who probably may be definitely out tomorrow is Russell but everybody else should be good to go.

The Windies skipper explained that Russell’s  situation is that he’s got a chronic injury and some days are better than others. Holder feels that Russell probably just hasn’t pulled up as how he would like for this game. And he doesn’t think it’s a situation where he’s going to get through the game tomorrow.

Russell’s absence a worry for Windies 

Andre Russell is a key player for Windies especially after his sensational performance in the IPL 2019. Russell batted at an incredible strike-rate of 204.8 in the tournament and averaged 56.7.

However he hasn’t been able to replicate the same magic in the World Cup so far. In three innings he has scored only 36 runs. But with the ball, he has done some damage and has picked five wickets in four innings.

Windies squad for ICC World Cup 2019:

Windies have played five matches so far in the World Cup and have lost three. Their only win came against Pakistan and now they face the challenge of New Zealand in their next match.
