  • Japan may be aiming for their 3rd consecutive finals appearance, the team is a different proposition. The squad is largely composed of young players, with the average age of the side being 24, while 17 players are making their World Cup debuts.

Japan squad for the world cup:

  • Goalkeepers: Sakiko Ikeda, Ayaka Yamashita, Chika Hirao
  • Defenders: Rumi Utsugi, Aya Sameshima, Saki Kumagai, Nana Ichise, Moeka Minami, Asato Miyagawa, Shiori Miyake
  • Midfielders: Hina Sugita, Emi Nakajima, Mizuho Sakaguchi, Riko Ueki, Yui Hasegawa, Yuka Momiki, Narumi Miura, Jun Endo, Risa Shimizu
  • Forwards: Mana Iwabuchi, Yuika Sugasawa, Rikako Kobayashi, Kumi Yokoyama

Possible ins or outs of this game:

  • There are no injury concerns, and with the qualification on the line, expect Asako Takakura to go with the strongest possible playing 11.
  • Moeka Minami came into the side for the Scotland game, replacing Nana Ichise in the playing 11. Expect the former to hold onto her place.
  • Elsewhere, Mana Iwabuchi’s goal in the last game means, she should keep Kumi Yokoyama out of the playing 11.
  • There will be a battle between Yui Hasegawa and Jun Endo for a place on the left side of midfield.

Japan Probable XI: Ayaka Yamashita (GK), Risa Shimizu, Saki Kumagai, Nana Ichise, Aya Sameshima, Emi Nakajima, Narumi Miura, Hina Sugita, Jun Endo / Yui Hasegawa, Yuika Sugasawa, Mana Iwabuchi

Possible ins or outs of this game:

Change is the only truth. Expect England head coach Phil Neville to tweak his playing 11. Image @Twitter
  • Even after England’s 2-1 win in the opening game, Phil Neville didn’t shy away from taking some tough calls for the Argentina game.
  • One of the surprising change came in goal with Karen Bardsley losing her place to Carly Telford. After her composed game, expect the latter to start the match.
  • England were shaky at the back in Game-1, and no wonder the backline was tweaked as Abbie McManus came in to replace Millie Bright.
  • While centre-back Steph Houghton managed to hold onto her place despite some wayward passing against Scotland. But she was more of herself in Game-2. Considering England have clinched the last-16 berth, Houghton may be rested here.
  • The real decision will be who starts up front. Ellen White and Jodie Taylor started the 1st and 2nd game respectively with both of them finding the back of the net. Taylor was an unused substitute in game-1, while White remained on the bench in Game-2.

England Probable XI: Carly Telford (GK), Lucy Bronze, Steph Houghton, Abbie McManus / Millie Bright, Alex Greenwood, Keira Walsh, Nikita Parris, Fran Kirby, Jill Scott, Beth Mead, Ellen White / Jodie Taylor
