Portugal Team News:
- Head coach Fernando Santos named Cristiano Ronaldo in his squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches. The 5-time Ballo d’Or winner will be captaining the side in the tournament.
- The former Real Madrid superstar took a sabbatical from the national set-up after the world cup, in a bid to settle at Juventus. He did win the Serie A but failed to lead his side in the Champions League, a tournament which the Old Lady had in their sight when making a move for the Portuguese superstar.
- Joao Felix has been rewarded for his club form with a first-ever international call-up. One of Europe’s hottest property netted 15 goals in 26 appearances for Benfica, and is being dubbed as the “next Ronaldo”.
- The 19-year-old scored three goals against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League quarterfinal 1st leg match and became the youngest player to register a hattrick in the tournament since Sergio Aguero achieved the feat in 2007 with Atletico Madrid.
- Fernando Santos decided not to choose veterans Nani, Ricardo Quaresma and Adrien Silva, while Sevilla forward Andre Silva misses out with a knee injury.
- In addition, FC Porto’s defensive midfielder Danilo Pereira will be serving a one-game ban here.
