And like other hyped IPL battles this one too was an anti-climax. The famed KKR batting line-up didn’t show up at all and the man who is hitting sixes for fun in IPL 2019 managed only three despite facing 44 balls. And further to KKR’s dismay, on a track where Imran Tahir turned the ball half a mile, their high quality spin trio was neutralized in surgical precision.
In the end Chennai won the one-sided match by seven wickets to consolidate their stay at the top of points table in Indian Premier League season 12 while KKR left with a question mark over their highly balanced batting unit.
Chahar wrecks havoic in Powerplays
The chepauk pitch this season has been a mystical one and Karthik failed to read it while Dhoni got his calculations right. He asked KKR to bat first and started off with spinners.
Narine loves clobbering spinners and has a weakness against pace. But once again Dhoni shunted logic with his trademark unorthodox strategy and Bhajji got Narine in his first over after Chris Lynn was dismissed by Deepak Chahar on the sixth ball of the innings.

Nitish Rana was out in the next over by Chahar and he inflicted further damage by removing Robin Uthappa in his third over. Karthik meanwhile tried to arrest the damage but gifted his wicket to Tahir while attempting an ugly hoick in the ninth over.
Russell’s rare off day at office
The lower order failed to rally around Andre Russell who too failed to get his timing right on this difficult pitch. He scored 50 off 44 balls and took KKR to 108 in 20 overs.

But Faf du Plessis kept the chase on and added 46 vital runs for the third wicket with Rayudu. But he was dismissed by Chawla in the 15th over but Chennai chased the total in the 18th over with Faf remaining unbeaten on 43 off 45 balls.
