Sevilla:

From winning 3-0 against Real Madrid to suffering a 0-2 home loss against Getafe, it’s fair to say that Sevilla have endured a very topsy-turvy season up until now.

But their current position on the table won’t reveal the true story of the season which flattered to deceive at the start of the 2018-19 campaign.

The 1945-46 Spanish Champions started the season with new manager Pablo Machin at the helm, who joined from Girona in the summer of 2018. It seemed a very good appointment at that time as the 43-year-old did a wonderful job with the Catalonia club, guiding them to 10th in the 2017-18 season.

The Sevillistas won six times in the first eight games under him. But the league campaign didn’t sta`rt on the same note as Machin’s men lost twice in the first four matches. But after those defeats, Machin’s team picked up the form and went on to win seven of their next nine league games.

Since winning 2-0 at home against Girona in the middle of December, Sevilla won just twice in the next 11 league games, with six of those matches ending in defeats.

The lowest point came in the Europa Legaue Slavia Prague knocked the five times champions out of the competition. That result proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Machin as he was shown the exit door.

Joaquín Caparrós is now in charge of the club, while fan favorites Machin is acting as a sporting director.

The next game is very crucial for Sevilla as they aim for the Champions League places. The 5th place Deportivo Alaves visit the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan holding a one-point advantage over their hosts.
