Mumbai have received a big blow ahead of the Super League stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as skipper and senior batsman Ajinkya Rahane has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. The team hasn’t named any replacement for him yet.
Rahane declared unfit for the Super League stage
The right-hand batsman wasn’t fully fit but he still played in the league stage of the tournament. But he is yet to regain fitness and hence has been declared unfit.
Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of selectors said that the top-order batsman was carrying niggles even during the league phase, which he kind of pushed through when the team was in a bit of trouble. But he would not be 100% fit for the Super League.
The 30 year old batsman played six games for Mumbai in this year’s Syed Muhtaq Ali Trophy but failed to make an impact. He scored just 58 runs in six games which includes three single-digit scores.
Rahane: A key player for Mumbai
Rahane may have failed to contribute so far in this tournament but he was still a key asset for Mumbai as he is a highly experienced player.
Rahane has played 182 T20s so far and has scored 4595 runs at an average of 29.45. He has 34 half-centuries under his belt and one hundred as well.
The top order batsman is the skipper of Rajasthan Royals franchise in IPL. The 2019 season of IPL wil start from March 23 and Rajasthan will be playing their first match on March 25.
