ICC Women’s World Twenty20, 2018
Australia Women vs New Zealand Women, Group B, Match 10 | AU-W vs NZ-W WHO WILL WIN
The tenth match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Twenty20 will see the Trans-Tasman rivalry as three-time champions Australia square off against the White Ferns’ as the latter aims to get their first win of the tournament.
Dominant Australia aim for yet another complete performance
Three-time Champions, Australia have been steamrolling oppositions for fun in the past few months. They came into this tournament on the back of a 3-0 shellacking of Pakistan Women in Malaysia and have continued their dominance over the Women in Green in their opening game with a comprehensive 52-run victory and then followed it with a nine-wicket mauling of minnows Ireland after their bowlers, spearheaded by Elysse Perry (2-12) restricted the Irish to 6-93 in 20 overs.
Australia looks a formidable unit with little to no chink in their armour. In Alyssa Healy (48 & 56), Beth Mooney and skipper Meg Lanning, they’ve got an enviable top-3 while the middle-order is spearheaded by experienced all-rounders in Ellyse Perry, Villani and Gardener.
Besides experience, the influx of talents like Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham have added flair and potency to their bowling attack making them the side to beat in the competition.
‘Harman-shocked’ White Ferns’ look to revive their fledgeling campaign
They’ll face their Trans-Tasman rivals in the White Ferns, who will come into this game, hoping the shrug off the 34-run loss they’d suffered at the hands of India in the opening encounter. The White Ferns’ came in way of a rampaging Harmanpreet Kaur in the first game. The Indian captain scored a swashbuckling 51-ball-103 to take the wind out of the Kiwis attack and post an unfathomable 5-194 in 20 overs.
In reply, Suzie Bates, in her quintessential way, spearheaded the chase with a 50-ball-67 but losing wickets at regular intervals did not help New Zealand’s cause and despite late assault from Katey Martin (39), they fall short by 34 runs.
With India winning their second game against Pakistan, New Zealand will need to win all of their remaining three games by bug margins and also hope that India loses one of their remaining games. It wouldn’t be easy though as they come into this game after having suffered a 0-3 loss to their arch-rivals back in September.’
