In a tense lead-up to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India faced India A in a behind-closed-doors, 3-day practice match at WACA.

Virat Kohli, who has been working to regain his peak form, initially showed promise, delighting viewers with a classic cover drive. But Mukesh Kumar dismissed him, catching him off-guard and sending him back to the pavilion. Not to be discouraged, Kohli went back to the nets after his dismissal, determined to refine his technique before the upcoming series against Australia’s formidable pace attack, featuring Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc.

Rishabh Pant also had a shaky outing. Known for his aggressive style, Pant started well but struggled against short-pitched deliveries and was ultimately bowled by Nitish Kumar Reddy. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been touted as a rising star, managed only 15 runs. Their dismissals highlight the areas of vulnerability that the Indian team may face as they prepare for the intense conditions and skilled Australian bowlers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

The match saw more challenges as KL Rahul, who has been a vital part of India’s lineup, left the field due to an injury. While the severity of his injury remains unknown, it has added to concerns about the team’s lineup and overall preparedness for the tour.
With the first Test set for November 22 in Perth, this match against India A is one of the few practice opportunities India has on Australian soil. These sessions, along with net practice, will be crucial for fine-tuning their skills and solidifying the team’s approach as they aim to start the long away season on a strong note.
