SA vs IND 2023: Why is Jasprit Bumrah not playing South Africa vs India T20 Series?

India’s tour of South Africa 2023 will start on December 10 with 3 T20Is followed by 3 ODIs and 2 Tests. The BCCI has announced a T20I squad where Jasprit Bumrah has been dropped. The last time Jasprit Bumrah represented the national team in T20Is was during the Ireland series last August. He led the Indian young side.
The real focus right now is on the direction the T20I side will take with just six matches to be played from the start of the South Africa series till the World Cup in June. Bumrah’s spot as a frontline pacer in the squad is cemented now. Still, he is not there as the South African tour will take a long one-month duration. It might be the workload that the Board of Control for Cricket in India didn’t want to overburden the speedster. The BCCI might not risk him as there is a long period of the Indian Premier League scheduled before the multinational tournament.
If we dig deep, Bumrah skipped the Indian young team in this shortest format earlier. But, in the absence of Hardik Pandya, it is quite logical that any team would not want a pace bowler captain if there is an option like Surya Kumar Yadav who is a ‘pro’ in this format. Bumrah has most probably been given rest to avoid those unwanted injuries possible in the white ball cricket.

The last 10 T20I innings list signifies that Jasprit Bumrah missed the T20 World Cup 2022 for his back injury. And that is quite evident why Bumrah has been rested from the white ball leg in South Africa. It was a long workload to play 11 matches in the ODI World Cup 2023.
