Not the end of Dhoni in T20Is: Chairman of selectors

The axing of Dhoni from India’s T20 squad has raised questions over Dhoni’s future in T20 internationals however chairman of selectors MK Prasad has made it clear that this is not the end of the wicket-keeping batsman in the T20 format and he also revealed that they are searching for the back-up wicket-keeper.

The big news is obviously the absence of MS Dhoni from the T20 squad. The next World T20 isn't till 2020 so this is an acknowledgement that someone else will be behind the stumps there.

We are looking at a second wicket-keeper: MK Prasad

MK Prasad was speaking with the media after the announcement of India’s squad for the T20I series against Windies and Australia. He said that for the T20Is here (Windies) and in Australia, Dhoni is not going to play, because they are also looking at a second wicketkeeper. He explained that for this slot the competition will be between Rishabh and Dinesh Karthik so they will be getting a chance to keep and bat.

Not picking Dhoni in the T20 squad is the right decision. But why say he is rested? Why does he need rest?

Dhoni’s T20I career

MS Dhoni has featured in 93 T20 international matches for India and has scored 1487 runs at an average of 37.17. He has two scores of fifty-plus in his 80 innings and has a strike-rate of 127.09.

His numbers behind the sumps are staggering as well.  He has 54 catches in his international career and has accounted for 33 stumpings as well.

Prasad clears the air on Jadhav’s  selection controversy

The dropping and subsequent selection of Kedar Jadhav in India’s ODI team for the Windies series had raised a lot of questions on the processes used by the selectors for selecting players in the national team. Speaking about this issue, the chairman of selectors said that Jadhav is coming back from an injury which is why they asked him to play in the Duleep Trophy. He also revealed that the selectors expected their team to go on to play the final which is why he’s not a part of the third ODI but is part of the fourth and fifth ODIs.
