After a period of careful deliberation, the ICC has officially released the updated fixture list for the 2023 ODI World Cup on August 9. The inaugural match is scheduled to kick off between Australia and New Zealand at the renowned Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5. The grand finale of the tournament is also slated to take place at the same venue on November 19.
The forthcoming World Cup extravaganza is set to unfold across 10 prestigious venues in India, showcasing the talent of 10 participating teams. Among these, eight teams secured direct entry based on their ODI Super League rankings, while the remaining two qualified through the World Cup Qualifier held in Zimbabwe earlier this year.
The release of the schedule encountered a certain level of delay, partly attributed to the ongoing tensions between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). At one juncture, the PCB even contemplated withdrawing from the World Cup due to these simmering tensions.
Nevertheless, the updated schedule has now been unveiled, and one of the tournament’s marquee clashes – India vs Pakistan – has been allocated a revised date and venue.
India vs Pakistan Match Details
The high-voltage India vs Pakistan ODI World Cup 2023 Match has been rescheduled to October 14, which falls on a Saturday. The match will unfold at the illustrious Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Originally slotted for October 15, the alteration in the match date was necessitated due to the local police’s inability to ensure adequate security on that day. This was due to the commencement of Navratri, a significant Hindu festival, which led to the decision to bring forward the match by a day.
The Pakistan Cricket Board had earlier expressed concerns about playing in Ahmedabad and had even sought a venue swap for two of their matches – against Australia and Afghanistan. Despite these concerns, the ICC has decided to uphold the original draft of the schedule.
This IND vs PAK match at the ODI World Cup will mark the third match for both teams in the tournament. The match is set to commence at 2 pm local time, further adding to the excitement and anticipation surrounding this high-stakes clash.
It’s worth noting that this edition of the World Cup will witness Pakistan’s return to India for international cricket since the 2016 T20 World Cup, when India and Pakistan locked horns in Kolkata.
As cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the 2023 ODI World Cup, the schedule promises a thrilling series of matches, culminating in the grand finale on November 19. The clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is undoubtedly poised to be one of the tournament’s most memorable moments.
