However, it was Zak Crawley who played a remarkable 189-run knock in the first innings where he looked in an absolute dominating touch. Thus, Crawley was named the Man of the Match award winner in the ENG vs AUS Ashes 2023 4th Test match.

After having lost the toss and being asked to bowl first, the visiting Australian team did not had the best of starts on Day 1 of the fourth Test match having lost both their openers in the first session. In reply, England lost their opener Ben Duckett cheaply but the pair of Zak Crawley and Moeen Ali batted really well to add 121 runs for the second wicket. Moeen scored 54 runs before getting dismissed by Starc on Day 2, however, Crawley looked in a sensational touch having composed a blistering knock of 189 runs off only 182 balls that included 21 fours and 3 sixes. Joe Root also played really well having smacked an aggressive knock of 84 runs. For England, skipper Ben Stokes scored 51 runs while Harry Brook notched up a vital innings of 61 runs.

Towards the end, it was Jonny Bairstow who led the fireworks but eventually remained one short of a brilliant century as England got bowled out for a massive score of 592 runs with a healthy first innings lead of 275 runs. For Australia, Josh Hazlewood took an exceptional five-wicket haul.

During the second innings, Australia once again lost both their openers, Usman Khawaja and David Warner quite early while Smith was trapped by England speedster Mark Wood for the second time in the Test match. However, Labuschagne silenced all his critics with an unbelievable innings of 111 runs that comprised of 10 fours and 2 sixes. However, with Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh unbeaten at the crease, Australia were placed on 214 for 5, but the heavy rains did not allow a single ball to be bowled on Day 5 and unfortunately, England had to settle for a draw.
