In a big breaking news development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have officially announced India T20I squad for the upcoming tour to West Indies. The Indian Cricket team is scheduled to play a total of 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20I matches in West Indies starting with the first Test from 12 July, 2023. The West Indies vs India 1st T20I match is scheduled to take place on 3 August, 2023 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

The BCCI have named a 15-member squad for the five T20I matches in West Indies starting in August later this year. The duo of Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been handed their maiden call-ups to the Indian T20I team. India’s premier all-rounder Hardik Pandya will captain the national team once again in the shorter format of the game with Suryakumar Yadav as his deputy. The trio of Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi and Sanju Samson have made a comeback in the T20I side while the duo of Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda have been dropped after poor performance in the recently concluded IPL 2023 season. Ishan Kishan and Samson are the two wicket-keeper batsmen.
The likes of Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have retained their spots from the last T20I series at home against New Zealand. Indian have included Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Avesh and Mukesh Kumar as the four frontline pacers in the squad. There is still no place in the T20I squad for senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami. Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah are still recovering from their respective injuries. Incidentally, Shivam Mavi who performed really well during the last 2 T20I series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, has not been included for the West Indies tour.
