Australia have once again stood up on the top having registered an amazing 43-run victory over hosts England in the second Test match of Ashes 2023 taking place at the Lord’s. It was a heartbreaking moment for the England captain Ben Stokes as his spectacular knock of 155 runs in the fourth innings run-chase eventually ended in vain. The visiting Aussie team have now taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match Test series.

The Lord’s cricket ground witnessed some brilliant performances from many Australian and England players across the five days. England captain Ben Stokes’ herculean effort on Day 5 ended in vain, however, it was a staggering hundred from Steve Smith in the first innings that came out on the top as it helped Australia post a big first innings score. In reply, England got off to an impressive start with a vital opening partnership of 91 runs between Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett. Ollie Pope also added a crucial stand of 97 runs for the second wicket. Duckett played a terrific innings of 98 runs while Harry Brook scored yet another Test half-century. The pair of Stokes and Duckett then bailed England out of trouble with an exceptional partnership of 132 runs. Duckett once again played well and scored 83 runs before wicket-keeper Alex Carey took a fantastic catch to dismiss him. Jonny Bairstow also got out cheaply in a bizarre run-out dismissal. Stokes did bring down the Aussie team under some serious pressure during his yet another masterclass innings of 155 runs that included 9 sixes and as many fours before Hazlewood dismissed him finally. The Aussie team then removed the England tail quickly to pick up an exciting 43-run win. For Australia, the trio of Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood took three wickets each.
