The big breaking news development coming in is that hosts England have announced their official playing XI for the upcoming second Ashes 2023 Test match against Australia scheduled to begin from 28 June, 2023 at the Lord’s. England ended up conceding a heartening 2-wicket defeat in the opening Test match against the Aussies in a closely-fought Ashes 2023 contest in Birmingham. The visiting Australian team are currently leading the five-match Test series by 1-0 margin.

The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have named the ENG playing 11 for the ENG vs AUS Ashes 2023 2nd Test match starting from Wednesday and the biggest revelation is that the hosts have dropped their frontline off-spinner Moeen Ali. Incidentally, during his comeback Test match last week, Ali was seen continuously struggling due to a sore index bowling finger which made it really difficult for him to grab the rhythm in his bowling as he took three wickets in the match on a pitch where Australia’s off-spinner Nathan Lyon ended up taking as many as 8 wickets. On the other hand, England have strengthened their bowling attack with the inclusion of right-arm speedster Josh Tongue who picked up a five-wicket haul at the Lord’s during his debut Test match against Ireland earlier this month.
Barring the change of Moeen, England have went ahead with the same side that played the Edgbaston Test match against Australia. This also means that England will be playing as many as four frontline pace bowling options, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Ollie Robinson and Tongue alongside skipper Ben Stokes while Joe Root will be the lone spin bowling option. There is still not much clarity on the fitness of speedster Mark Wood as he continues to remain on the sidelines alongside Chris Woakes.
