England’s Playing XI for the only Test match against Ireland at Lord’s on 1 June has been revealed. Josh Tongue, the Worcestershire seamer, is poised to make his Test debut.
ENG vs IRE Test: No James Anderson
Due to injuries, James Anderson and Ollie Robinson will be unable to participate in this Test, although they are expected to recover in time for the first Ashes Test.
With Anderson and Robinson absent, Tongue, who boasts an impressive record of 162 first-class wickets from 47 matches, has been given the chance to step in. The 25-year-old will join the likes of Stuart Broad and Matthew Potts in England’s seam attack.
It is noteworthy that Tongue has been in outstanding form this season, claiming 11 wickets in four County Championship matches. One of his notable achievements was dismissing the exceptional Australian batsman Steve Smith during Worcestershire’s encounter with Sussex.

Jonny Bairstow makes return in England vs Ireland Test at Lord’s
Jonny Bairstow, who has recuperated from his injury, will be returning to Test cricket after his last appearance in August. During the preceding summer, the wicketkeeper-batsman put up an impressive performance for England, smashing four centuries in six Tests.
Bairstow amassed a total of 681 runs at an average of 75.66, with a strike rate of 96.59. However, he unfortunately sustained a leg injury while playing golf in September. Harry Brook, who filled in for Bairstow during his absence, also had a strong start to his Test career, scoring four centuries in six matches. Brook, who recently made headlines with his stint for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, has retained his place in the team and will be batting at No. 5.
