In quest to maintain their chances of reaching the playoffs, the Rajasthan Royals are in desperate need of a victory. They are currently up against the Punjab Kings in the 66th match of the Tata IPL 2023 and have been compelled to make a lineup alteration. The team management have opted for Riyan Parag instead of Dhruv Jurel.
PBKS vs RR Match: Why is Dhruv Jurel Not Playing Today’s IPL Match?
During the toss, Rajasthan Royals’ captain Sanju Samson announced that Ravichandran Ashwin would not be included in the playing 11. Ashwin is currently dealing with a back spasm, and as a result has been dropped. However, besides Ashwin, RR have made one more change to their eleven by replacing Agra’s batter Dhruv Jurel with Assam’s youngster Riyan Parag. However, Dhruv is among the subs and could come in as an Impact player when RR comes out to bat in the second innings. Here’s what Sanju Samson said at the toss,
“We will bowl. Looking at the dimensions and looking as to what we require in the tournament, it is better to bowl. We need to win the game. Then see how the other games go. If you want to play good T20 cricket, you need to forget things. We have had four to five days off. One has to understand the conditions. We have couple of changes. Last minute changes. Ashwin misses out because of a back spasm.”

Dhruv Jurel IPL 2023 Salary
Dhruv Jurel was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals at his base price of INR 20 lakh in the IPL 2023 auction. As a young wicket-keeper batsman, this was Jurel’s first taste of the IPL after being signed by RR in the mega auction prior to the 15th season. Although he did not get a chance to play, the experience would have been valuable for his growth and development. Jurel, who was named the vice-captain of India’s U19 World Cup team in 2020, made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2022 season and also featured in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was retained by RR for the 2023 season, and he will be eager to seize the opportunities that come his way.
