The latest round of UEFA Nations League for the Group 2 will be wrapped up for this month when Iceland welcome Switzerland in the matchday four programme at Laugardalsvöllur on Monday.

Relegation for Iceland?
The hosts are bottom of the group and are yet to win a match in the league. They have already lost their previous two games 0-6 and 0-3 against Switzerland and Belgium respectively. And if they fail to win the match tomorrow, considering their huge goal-deficit, the Icelanders will be relegated to the tier two and will play the League B in the Nations League’s next season which is scheduled to kick off in 2020/21.

Can Switzerland qualify for the League Finals?

As per the rules, the four groups winners of League A will be playing in the UEFA Nations League Finals in June next year. Technically they are still in the race to win this group. First, the Swiss will have to beat Iceland in tomorrow’s game which will take them to 6 points and above Belgium in the group on goal difference. Assuming Roberto Martinez’s men will beat Iceland in their home game next month, the game between Belgium and Switzerland will be a play-off for Xherdan Shaqiri and company and they will have to beat their opponents to win the group.

They have also conceded a mammoth 20 goals in the last 7 matches, scoring just six times. Indeed they look destined for relegation.

Switzerland – The Swiss started their post World Cup era in some style as they trounced Iceland 6-0 in UEFA Nations League. But it was anything but a typical Switzerland display and that result was more down to the quality of opponents rather than the brilliance of Shaqiri and Company. They often dominate the game against the less fancied opponents and we are expecting the same in this match as well.

Formation: 3-5-2

Goalkeeper – We have overlooked Hannes Thor Halldorsson of Iceland. The home team are clear underdogs and that’s why we think Halldorsson to be in pressure throughout the game. He is a good goalkeeper but may be undone by his defenders and the opponents’ superior skills. Yann Sommer has been given the nod.

Defenders: Ragnar Sigurdsson has a good game against France, and so should be confident in this match against the less technically gifted players. While Rodriguez and Schar are the obvious choices from the Swiss team.

Midfielders: In the midfield, the Big Shaq can’t be overlooked. If Switzerland are to produce creativity or spark from the middle, then it has to be Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri. He is also our captain. Zuber and Xhaka complete out Swiss flavour while Sigurdsson and Bjarnason have been selected from Iceland.

Attackers: Alfred Finnbogason is the home team’s main threat up front and since he is at home, we are backing him to have a good game while Seferovic comes in as the 2nd attacker.
