Undoubtedly, the Windies team was named under the list of the big dogs of the game. They have won the inaugural and the second edition of 60 over World Cup 1975 and 1979 respectively. They entertained the world with the pace battery Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose and Michael Holding alongside the likes of the batting greats Garfield Sobers, Gordon Greenidge, George Headley, Brian Lara, Clive Lloyd and Viv Richards. So what forced the current generation to become the dichotomy of the previous group?

There is a big question rises on the current team’s performance when they witnessed the big defeat in Test against India in Rajkot even after having such a great crop of cricket, what has become the Kryptonite of Windies team?

He had icons to look up to. He rubbed shoulders with Ambrose, Walsh and Lara. But the younger generation of the current Windies team doesn’t have icons to share their thoughts. They don’t have anyone to look up to. It is challenging to become mature as a cricketer in an environment of regular failures. Right now, the dugout is filled with naïve cricketers.

What needs to be changed?

West-Indies cricket needs to think about the facts and change the policy of selection or team combination accordingly else maybe the worst is yet to come.

Darren Ganga pinpoints the fact which can’t be hidden. Windies team need faces that can help the players to become mature as a cricketer. Basically, they lack experience heads that can create the atmosphere of winning.

Windies will play the next Test in Hyderabad against India on October 12. It is expected that the team management will make few changes after the big loss in Rajkot.
