The final of the women’s T20 World Cup 2023 took place between South Africa and Australia. The game saw the staggering competition between bat and ball but it was the girls from Australia, who yet showed their class and pounded the opposition to successfully defend their crown.

Australia women won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a sensational effort from their end as despite losing wickets in clusters they didn’t succumb to pressure. Beth Mooney played a sensational innings of unbeaten 74 runs in 53 balls and helped her side post a total of 156 runs on the board.

She was well supported by Ashleigh Gardner (29), Grace Harris (10), and Meg Lanning (10) as Australia women posted a decent total on the board. For South Africa, it was Shabnim Ismail was the pick of the bowlers as she returned with the figures of 2/26.

Chasing the target, South African batters struggled to get going as they lost quick wickets and were reduced to 54/3 in 10.4 overs. But opener Laura Wolvaardt (61) kept her side in hunt and smashed an excellent fifty under pressure. Chloe Tryon joined the party but the brilliance of Australian women outclassed the Proteas women.

With 27 runs needed off the final over, South Africa fought well but could manage only 7 runs as Australia won the title by 19 runs.

Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner was awarded Player of the Tournament in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. She played a pivotal role for her side as he batted and bowled staggeringly well in the series. She scored 110 runs with the bat and took 10 wickets in the series.
