Fastest 1000 runs in ODI by an Indian: Team India is currently involved in a limited-overs series versus New Zealand. In the first ODI match between the two sides, dashing Indian opener Shubman Gill rewrote the history books as he became the fastest Indian to reach 1000 runs in ODI. Gill hit a well deserved century and overtook the likes of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni among others.
Fastest Indian to 1000 ODI Runs: Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill hit back to back centuries and became quickest to 1000 runs amongst Indians, and joint second-fastest overall. The fastest ever is Fakhar Zaman from Pakistan who achieved the feat in mere 18 innings. Gill hit the milestone in 19 innings, along with Imam-ul-haq from Pakistan.
There is a host of Indian players who are vying for the opener slot and play alonside skipper Rohit Sharma. But Gill has more or less sealed his spot given his consistency. On current form, Gill is simply undroppable. The team management have also shown faith in the youngster and are keen to give him plenty of opportunities. Most experts view Gill as the successor to Virat Kohli and also consider him for future captaincy role. Having broken into the test and T20I teams as well, sky is the limit for Shubman Gill.
