The former West Indian white ball skipper Nicholas Pooran endured a poor T20 world cup recently in Australia. That didn’t dent his reputation with the IPL franchises as he was picked in the IPL for a massive price tag.

Lucknow Super Giants needed a quality left hand batsman in their middle order as their batting line-up is filled with right hand batsmen. The 2 left hand batters they have in their ranks, namely Quinton de Kock and krunal Pandya are not great players of spin. They badly needed to fill this gap and the right guy for them to do this job was Nicholas Pooran.
LSG management were well aware of the fact and decided to shell out a whopping 16 crore rupees for the southpaw Nicholas Pooran. The likes of Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings were interested on him but they gave up quite early in the bidding race. Delhi Capitals seemed determined to acquire the services of Nicholas Pooran and they were the losing bid for him. It was hard to understand the need of Nicholas Pooran in a team like Delhi Capitals who decided to spend a lot of money on him. It was a win for both the parties, LSG benefited from getting Nicholas Pooran and DC benefitted by not getting Nicholas Pooran.
Nicholas Pooran will be surrounded by some high quality batsmen who complements him in a big way. The worrying sign for LSG fans is that their mentor Gautam Gambhir said they are looking to play Nicholas Pooran at #5 as a finisher. Although Nicholas Pooran did well for SRH batting at #5, one can extract maximum returns from him when he bats in the 7 to 14 overs phase, at number 4.
