The world cup winner Sam Curran was always going to be a hot commodity in the IPL mini auction for the year 2023 and the bidding war that created amongst several franchise tells a story. He had a stunning T20 world cup in Australia and he was one of the key members of the English bowling attack.
Sam Curran IPL Team 2023
Sam Curran made his IPL debut for Punjab Kings in the year 2019 where he also took a famous hat-trick against Delhi Capitals. He has developed in stature since then and is one of the best death bowlers going around at the moment. He also has the ability to hit sixes which makes him an interesting package overall. There were as much as 6 teams that raised their paddle to bid for the England all rounder. The likes of RR, LSG, CSK and MI were determined to get him at any cost but Punjab Kings decided to break the bank for Sam Curran as they outbid all the other franchises who bid against them.
Punjab Kings bought Sam Curran for a whopping 18.50 crore rupees. This is the highest price that has been given to any player in IPL history.
A fearsome trio for Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings have one of the best death bowling department in their team. The likes of Sam Curran, Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada form a fearsome trio. These 3 can also bowl in any phase of the game which gives massive flexibility for the captain Shikhar Dhawan. Punjab Kings would be hoping for Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone to recover in time by the IPL starts as they don’t have solid backups for them. Their batting looks weaker compared to their bowling and they would need one of their 3 star batsmen to have an all time great IPL to qualify for the playoffs.
