Young English batter Harry Brook was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 13.25 crore in the IPL auction for 2023 following a heated bidding war.

Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore were the two franchises competing in the inaugural round of bidding. Just after RCB withdrew their proposal at Rs 5 crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad entered at Rs 5.25 crore, and then it was between the Hyderabad and Rajasthan franchises. When the two teams faced off, Rajasthan took it to Rs 10 crore, but SRH quickly followed suit and raised it to Rs 10.25 crore. In the end, he was captured by the franchise with the largest purse.

Brook’s  performance in the Blast – first as a finisher in 2020, then moving up to No. 4 in 2021 – was sufficient for him to be mentioned as a potential England player, and Ben Stokes echoed that opinion after he scored 62 runs off of 31 balls in the Northern Superchargers’ inaugural Hundred game. He is very effective against seamers, hitting down the ground, over midwicket, and over the covers. He has also developed some creative new strokes, like reverse-lapping and scooping in the final overs.

In the most recent Test series against Pakistan, he quickly rose to the top run-scorer position, amassing 468 runs at an average of 93.60, including three centuries, one half-century, and the maximum score of 153. For his outstanding performance in the seven-match T20I series against the Asian heavyweights that took place in September and October as part of the tour, Brook was also handed the “Man of the Series” title. He totaled 238 runs in seven innings, averaging 79.33, with one half-century and the highest score of 81.
