Team management is backing every player: Rahane

The selections and omissions of some young players from India’s Test squad by the team management has under the scanner in the recent times. But vice-captain of India’s Test team Ajinkya Rahane has said that the team management is backing each and every player.  He claimed that every player knows his role in the team and the focus is on expressing themselves.

An opportunity for Mayank, Prithvi and Siraj: Rahane 

The Indian middle-order batsman was speaking with the media ahead of the first Test between India and West Indies. The first Test commences on October 04 at Rajkot.

When asked about the youngsters in the team, Rahane said that he thinks it’s an opportunity, particularly for guys that are coming in – Prithvi (Shaw), Mayank (Agarwal), (Mohammed) Siraj.

He noted that they all did well in domestic cricket and India A matches. So it’s an opportunity. The right hand batsman feels that as a team India should do well and personally also. He explained that if an individual is set, they can make it count as a batsman. As a bowler, if you’re going well, you can pick five or more wickets.

Newcomers shouldn’t think of what will happen after two Test matches: Rahane

He also mentioned that everyone knows their role in the team and the team management is backing each and every individual. He stated that as a newcomer, it is about going out there and expressing yourself rather than thinking about the future or think about what is going to happen after these two Test matches.

Rahane says team’s goal is definitely to dominate

When asked about the West Indies Test series, Rahane said that the team’s goal will be to play good cricket and definitely to dominate. At the same time he mentioned that improvement, however you look at it – as a batsman, as a bowler and also as a team, what the team is going to gain, that will be their focus.
