The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma walked out of the field after injuring himself while he attempted to take a straightforward catch in slips. The incident happened in the very 2nd over of the game when Mohammed Siraj was bowling to Anamul Haque.
BAN vs IND: Will Rohit Sharma open the innings?
Rohit Sharma dropped a sitter in slips and walked to the dressing room and hasn’t comeback to the field to take charge as captain. KL Rahul has been the acting captain in the absence of Rohit Sharma who has done a stunning job to say the least.
The latest update from the BCCI twitter handle is that the opening batsman Rohit Sharma has been taken to the hospital for scans and the medical team is assessing his situation at the moment. It is highly unlikely that he will comeback to bat in this match unless it’s absolutely necessary. India are in a commanding position in this must win game, thanks to Washington Sundar who dismissed two of Bangladesh’s most important batsmen in Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim to derail Bangladesh’s innings.
India lost the first match after fighting really hard, Washington Sundar was not preferred to bowl more than five overs in that game by Rohit Sharma when he was bowling really well that day. Bangladesh haven’t lost an ODI series in their home since 2016 and India have got a great opportunity to break the streak.
Who will open with Shikhar Dhawan?
If Rohit Sharma isn’t fit to bat in this innings, it will be interesting to see the opening partner of Shikhar Dhawan. It is expected that Virat Kohli will open the innings with Shreyas Iyer to bat at #3. India do have KL Rahul who is a natural opener but moving him up and down isn’t a wise option when he has struggled to pace his innings while opening for India in ODIs.
