Keshav Maharaj is easily the lead spinner for South Africa across formats. He has developed over the years and has become an elite spinner in white ball where he was lagging behind. He was always a solid bowler at the test match level. He has even risen through the ranks to captain the South African ODI and T20I side in the absence of regular captain Temba Bavuma.
IND vs SA: Illness keeps Keshav Maharaj out of 3rd ODI
South Africa played brilliantly in the first ODI of the series to go 1-nil ahead in the series. It was expected that South Africa would beat India for 2nd consecutive time inside 10 months in ODIs but the 2nd string India side came back strongly to win the 2nd match of the series, thereby levelling the series as well.
Temba Bavuma, South Africa’s stand-in skipper didn’t play the 2nd game as he fell sick on the day of the 2nd game. Keshav Maharaj went on to lead the side in the absence of Temba Bavuma in that game.
With series on the line, South Africa have faced another huge blow as Keshav Maharaj has fallen ill and is not playing the series decider here in Delhi. South Africa are already without Tabraiz Shamsi who is ill as well. Bijorn Fortuin is the only spinner in the XI for South Africa in the 3rd ODI. It is not a terrible move either to play with just a spinner as Delhi is a small ground and spinners find it difficult to restrict the run flow in here.
Who Will Win T20 World Cup 2022?
David Miller’s dream run just got better
David Miller is one of the deadliest hitters going around in world cricket at the moment. He has improved his game against spin and is looking invincible to say the least. With no Keshav Maharaj and Temba Bavuma, the dashing southpaw David Miller is leading his country for the first time in ODIs. He will be wanting to start off his captaincy career with a win which will also fetch a series victory for them.
