The Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian men are set to face South Africa, in the second One Day International (ODI) on Sunday (October 9). The game will be played at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, in Ranchi.
India, on Thursday (October 6), lost to South Africa in the first ODI of the three-match series. The Lucknow game was invaded by the rain and was delayed further. Reduced to 40 overs, India won the toss and elected to field first. However, it was Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, who aided South Africa to put on a relatively huge total of 249 runs. India’s Shardul Thakur bowled eight overs and picked up a couple of wickets.
In reply, the Indian top order couldn’t sustain for long. Although batters Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson pulled it close for their side, things turned around anyway. Iyer slammed a fifty in 37 deliveries with eight boundaries in his account. While, Samson, hit an unbeaten knock of 86 runs in 63 deliveries with nine fours and three sixes. Thakur too was on the mission, but in the end, his 33-run cameo was not enough. South Africa beat India by merely nine runs. The Proteas men have a 1-0 lead in the series underway.
