IND vs Pretorious had a decent outing as he picked up three wickets in Indore and aided his side to attain a victory. However, the 33-year-old suffered an injury during the same match on Tuesday (October 4), and here’s the update on Pretorious’ participation in the 50-over matches.

Pretorious, the pace-bowling all-rounder, has been ruled out of the three-match One Day International (ODI) series between India and South Africa. As stated by the Cricket South Africa officials, Pretorious caught a fracture to his left thumb during the third T20I against India.

Pretorious, following the injury, has also been ruled out of the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup in Australia, starting from October 16. This is the second injury blow for the South African side after batter Rassie van der Dussen was ruled out due to a broken finger.

Besides, Marco Jansen has been called in to replace his place for the ODI series against India. Jansen is also one of the three reserved players in the Proteas squad for the T20 World Cup. It is yet to be confirmed if Jansen replaces Pretorious in the T20 WC squad too.

IND vs SA: South Africa avoid whitewash in T20I series

Moreover, South Africa recently lost the T20I series against India. However, they managed to avoid the whitewash with the victory in Indore. The high-scoring match witnessed a brilliant century from Rilee Rossouw, who scored an unbeaten knock of 100 runs in merely 48 deliveries, with seven fours and eight sixes. Opener Quinton de Kock also smashed a half-century.

In reply, India’s Dinesh Karthik was the highest run-getter for his side. He scored 46 runs in 21 deliveries with four boundaries and four sixes. In the end, Pretorious captured the ultimate wicket of Mohammed Siraj and South Africa won the game by 49 runs.

Furthermore, South Africa will now play three ODIs against India on October 6, October 9, and October 11; in Lucknow, Ranchi and Delhi respectively. The side will commence their T20 WC crusade on October 24 at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart. They are placed in Group 2 alongside India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
