India were incompetent in the super 4 stage of Asia cup 2022. They came into the tournament being the outright favorites to lift the trophy. Even in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, their 2 best T20I pacers, they were very well covered with respect to all the departments of the game. They played their best possible XI from the available options in the first 2 games of the Asia Cup 2022 and they won both the games.
Asia Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma’s first big defeat as a captain
India are the #1 team in T20Is at the moment. They were dominant in all the bilateral tournaments as usual, Rohit Sharma continued where Virat Kohli left with respect to bilateral tournaments. The problem always, was, India’s performances in multinational tournaments and Rohit Sharma hasn’t made any difference in there.
India have a massive talent pool and probably the best depth in white ball compared to other teams in the world. Ever since Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid lost their way and didn’t know to handle the talented resources they have under their disposal. They made some outright blunders by not replacing Axar Patel for Ravindra Jadeja who would have been a direct swap for Ravindra Jadeja both with bat and ball.
Instead, they made some big brain moves, played Deepak Hooda out of position at #7 which cost India some very crucial runs at the death overs in both the super 4 games. India lost both the games in the last over.
Top 5 batsmen with most runs in T20I
India didn’t even make any changes to their batting order after their loss to Pakistan, but Rohit Sharma’s move to bring Ravichandran Ashwin for Ravi Bishnoi was baffling to say the least. After losing both their super 4 games, India needed Afghanistan to beat Pakistan to stay in the hunt but Pakistan defeated Afghanistan in a thriller to secure a spot in the final along with Sri Lanka, which leaves India and Afghanistan out of the final race once and for all.
Can Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid redeem themselves?
The super 4 exit would be a good reality check for Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid and they would be waiting to redeem themselves in the all important world cup in Australia in October. They would also be hoping for the return of either one of Jasprit Bumrah or Harshal Patel to the side before world cup.
