Apart from his political and administrative career, Anurag Thakur also played a Ranji Trophy Match, which not a lot are aware about. While he was the President of HPCA, he represented Himachal Pradesh, captaining the side against Jammu Kashmir in the 2000/02 season. This was his first and only first-class match, that he played to fulfill the criteria of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), that requires state administrators to have the experience of at least one first-class game to become a state selector.
Biography
Anurag Thakur comes from a Hindu Rajput family hailing from Hamirpur. He is the son of Prem Kumar Dhumal, a former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. Thakur completed his bachelor’s degree from Doaba College in Jalandhar, Punjab.
He served as the president of the BCCI from May 2015 to February 2017. Thakur has been a commissioned officer in the Territorial Army. His connection with cricket also led him to playing a Ranji Trophy game in order to become the chairman of selectors of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) and was also inducted into the BCCI national junior selection committee.
Thakur also served as the president of the BCCI and holds a special accreditation to his name of being the first cricketer to have debuted in first-class cricket after taking over as president of HPCA in July 2000.

Anurag Thakur also served as President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and has been involved in Military Service (Indian Army – Territorial Unit). Thakur went on to succeed his father in May 2008 as Member of Parliament of India’s 14th Lok Sabha from Hamirpur constituency for the first time. He became the first BJP MP to be awarded the Sansad Ratna Award.
