One of the best phases to bowl a maiden over is with the new ball when the ball is still swinging and seaming off the wicket which makes the batsmen go clueless with their shot selections. Also, all the batsmen will like to take time initially, get their eyes in, get a hang of the wicket before going for their shots, which again plays into the hands of the bowlers who can slip in some quiet overs before the ball loses its ability to swing. Having said that, in T20s, where an innings lasts for just 120 balls, no batsmen would like to play 6 dots consecutively, it requires extreme skills to bowl a maiden over by a bowler even under favorable circumstances.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar climbing up the ladder
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one of the best swing bowlers in India at the moment. There are not much genuine swing bowlers going around who could bowl as effectively with both the new ball and at the death. Though, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has a lot of limitations with respect to his bowling, he is extremely shrewd and knows to outfox the batsmen with subtle changes of pace and lengths and lines.
In the game against Delhi Capitals, his first over to Mandeep Singh was an absolute masterclass to say the least. He started his over with 2 away going deliveries, and bowled 2 in coming deliveries, the batsman by now had no clue what’s coming his way in the next ball, Bhuvneshwar Kumar didn’t try to swing the fifth ball of the over but bowled a fourth stump line that just went straight to the keeper, but in the process, took the outside edge of the batsman as well. It was an enthralling over that turned out to be a wicket-maiden.
