IPL Playoffs: The Tata IPL 2022 has reached halfway stage. And contrary to all the pre-season predictions, it’s the lesser popular franchises that are ruling the points table. Meanwhile, the multiple-time champions like Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders have almost reached a stage of elimination. What has bought about this significant change? And which are most likely teams to finish in the top four? Let’s find out what the remaining half of the league has in store for us.
IPL 2022: Who will qualify for IPL Playoffs?
16 points and in some rare cases 14 points with good NRR are what it generally takes to make it to the playoffs of the Indian Premier League. Keeping that in mind, the newly formed franchise, Gujarat Titans are the front runners for one of those 4 spots. They already have 12 points from 7 matches and have just lost 1 match so far. Racing behind them is Sunrisers Hyderabad, who won 5 in a row after losing their initial two matches. Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals are also in one of their best forms ever registering 10 points already from 7 matches played so far. These 3 teams will have to play terribly bad from now on to go out of that top-four contention. Apart from them RCB and LSG have also registered 10 points and have lost just 3 matches so far. If they can win 3-4 matches from the remaining 6 that they have, they also stand a good chance to make it to the playoffs.

Teams with the best bowling line-up lead the IPL 2022 points table
Even though the bigger teams are struggling and relatively smaller teams are making it big in this year’s IPL, the principal factors that have helped teams to win global T20 leagues still hold true in IPL 2022 as well. It’s the teams with the best bowling line-up, that is doing good in the first half of the IPL. The trio of Shami, Ferguson, and Rashid for GT. Spin and pace duo of Ashwin, Chahal, Boult, and Prasidh for RR, pace quartet for SRH (Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar, Jansen, and Malik), etc have been the strong reason behind the above-par performance of these teams so far.
Whereas if we look at the teams languishing down at the bottom, it’s the bowling that has let them down. Let it be MI, CSK, KKR, or even PBKS, they have failed to form a core group of bowlers to take on the opposition. Among them, MI is practically out of the reckoning and CSK has a very very negligible chance to make it to the top four. But both KKR and PBKS can still make it if they manage to win almost all of their remaining matches.
