The Jazz’s old problems

During the second half of the season, it was common for the Jazz to blow leads and give away an advantage. The last game was no different as the team after leading for most of the game played some brain-fade type of basketball late in the game, something which will bring back the poor memories for the Jazz fans when the team was unable to pull through. There is no doubt that the team’s inability to beat a Mavs team without Luka Doncic raises red flags.

One issue is that Donovan Mitchell has been forcing matters a bit, sure, he shot 43% in the last game but he took 30 shots, and that is because he is the designated closer and the leader of the team. I believe he will need to move it around and limit it to 23-26 shots at most on a 40-45% percentage to get the others going. Rudy Gobert is sometimes bereft of touches but that is more so because of his nature of play.

For the Mavs, clicking on 22 three-pointers was huge and the team also received massive help from Kleber, who hit eight. Brunson and Kleber combined for 14 triples and the Jazz didn’t see this coming from either of them for sure. The Jazz did well in limiting Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock but a poor fourth-quarter performance keeps haunting them.

Fantasy scenarios

Mitchell is the go-to guy for the Jazz and his ability to extract big-time points has been helpful for those who pick him as a Fantasy option. Bojan Bogdanovic has been another reliable fantasy option. Although Rudy Gobert has caught a ton of rebounds, his points tally has been hit massively. Meanwhile, Jordan Clarkson can still be a high-yielding filler type of player and the same goes for Royce O’Neale. Mike Conley can be a viable option too but he has been inconsistent.

Jalen Brunson’s explosive night surely changes the selection scenario here. He has emerged as the favorite as the fantasy pick if Doncic doesn’t play and even if Doncic plays, he can align in the fantasy lineups. Dinwiddie has brought a lot of value while Bullock continues to be a stabilizer. Finney-Smith has been a bit inconsistent while Powell’s stocks have surely fallen these days and Maxi Kleber’s stocks have been bolstered.
